Clean Water Services has been in a committed relationship with the Tualatin River for 48 years. We show our love in many ways and the investment has paid off for the river, our community and our ratepayers. The Tualatin is healthier today than it has been in generations, valued for its natural beauty, recreational opportunities and wildlife habitat.
Our cleaned wastewater gets primary, secondary and sometimes even tertiary treatment before it's returned to the river. In the summer months when the river is feeling low, we release water from Hagg Lake to increase the flow and keep the water cool. We work with partners to ensure river banks are healthy and stable by removing invasive plants and planting native trees and shrubs, which also create shade and habitat for beloved animals and birds. And, last year we swept 13,000 miles of streets to help keep pollutants out of storm drains and the river.
